There are perhaps two major reasons why people would not want to discover their purpose ON THEIR OWN. First, they are not so confident that they can do that. They would rather an external entity helped them, such as a spiritual man, a coach and so on.

Second, they are afraid that they might "discover a miss". In other words, they might spend their life doing that which they thought was their purpose and yet it wasn't.
